          Service Above Self
The Rotarians Four-Way Test

.
Dear Friend

IF you reside in Scarsdale OR your business is located in Scarsdale OR your business has ties to Scarsdale; AND

  • you are interested in engaging in service activities that benefit the local and global community; and
  • you are able to join us weekly (or many weeks) on Tuesdays at noon for lunch at Moscato in Scarsdale,

THEN please join the Scarsdale Rotary Club for lunch, hear a speaker from the community and get involved in the Club’s work!  Your first luncheon is free – please, be our guest -- come meet people who share your passion for service!

What is the Rotary?

Rotary International is the world’s largest nonprofit organization, with chapters around the world, and its motto is “Service Above Self.” Along with the Gates Foundation and UNICEF, Rotary International is one of the largest funders of the Polio Plus campaign, which has almost completely eradicated the disease.

By joining a local Rotary chapter, you can visit any Rotary club around the world and you are eligible to engage in Rotary’s national grant process!

The Scarsdale Rotary Club is a local chapter made up of a diverse group of local residents, business owners and professionals who meet weekly for fellowship, to engage in discussions with speakers, and to plan service projects.

Our Major Projects

Our priorities change over time, as they reflect the priorities of our current active members and the Board. Get involved and get your passion in play! Currently, our main activities include:

  • At our 2017 annual Food and Wine Tasting Fundraiser, that was held on April, 9 we raised over $50,000 for local and international charities.
    • Each year the following 5 local charities each receive 12% of the money raised: Greenburg Nature Center; Lakota Children’s Enrichment; Scarsdale Edgemont Family Counseling; Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps; and the  Scarsdale Foundation.
    • A portion of the money raised is applied towards water filtration projects in Haiti; and
    • The balance of the money raised supports local grants to charities (ranging from $500-2,000).
  • We typically fund 15-17 grants to local charities annually!
  • We prepare and deliver a Thanksgiving dinner to shut-ins, in partnership with the Scarsdale/Edgemont Family Counseling Service;
  • Some of us visit shut-ins weekly;
  • We host a December evening holiday party at Children’s Village and provide our adopted House there with a large gift;
  • We join many local groups for Days of Service, which can engage Rotarians and their children and families!
  • We award scholarships to graduating seniors from Scarsdale High School who have demonstrated a superior commitment to service;
  • We sponsor a leadership training retreat for High School students;
  • We host speakers at our luncheons each week who tell us about their good works, and who motivate and inspire us to be global citizens.
    • Each Rotarian invites at least one speaker to a meeting
    • Speakers present a 10-15 minute presentation on a topic of interest (ranging from good deeds, health programs, media and sports trends, musical and poetry performances, etc – the possibilities are endless and include anything of interest to our members); and
  • We hold occasional Open Houses -- Wine and Cheese evening events where we meet and greet prospective members at Value Electronics on Popham Road.

When We Meet

We meet weekly on Tuesdays at Moscato in Scarsdale, from noon to 1:15 PM. We also have occasional evening meetings -- open houses for prospective new members to meet the Scarsdale team.

The Costs Associated with Membership

  • The cost of the weekly luncheon meeting at Moscato is $22.
  • Annual dues (paid through two installments) are a total of $400. This sum includes a tax-deductible donation towards Rotary International’s End Polio Now Campaign and also supports many of our local outreach programs and administrative expenses (insurances, etc.).  We offer a 50% dues reduction for clergy and those members under 40 years old.
  • All Scarsdale Rotary members are volunteers – we do not pay any salaries! The money we raise through dues and fundraisers is used to do good in local and global communities.
Please Join Us!

Come as our guest to a weekly meeting and see for yourself what our club is all about.  We meet every Tuesday from noon to 1:15 pm at Moscato Restaurant at 874 Scarsdale Avenue.
